The folks at Vote-now have always championed a more sustainable way of voting. For example, we pioneered the use of email and postcards (rather than paper ballots) to provide voters with the information they need to make their choices via the Internet rather than returning a paper ballot. This reduces the use of paper, printing costs, and the fuel used for transportation/delivery. Still, a major problem faced by all electronic voting companies is the continuous energy required to maintain the election servers 24/7 and the resulting carbon footprint.

To help balance these energy needs, in 2009 we installed a 4 Kwh solar array, which generates more electricity into the grid than the sum of all our servers, routers, switches & computers.
